Dept. of Educational Management, ISE, BNUZ He Wenchao
1. Experience is the basic of cognition.
Cognition won’t come to a person without any basic practicing which comes from the influence of the study life that he or she has had. Only when the relationship between the experience that a person has had and the new thing has been established, he or she can cognize the new thing easily and successfully. Experience becomes the basic of comprehending the new thing. The more a person has known, the more he or she can cognize from the new thing, because the possibility of his or her transferring various knowledge is quite big.
2. Experience deepens cognition.
Cognition contains perceptual one and rational one. Rational cognition is the high level of cognition from perceptual one. Only when a person’s cognition comes to rational level, he or she can comprehend the real sense of the new thing. How can cognition be upgraded? Experience plays an important roll in the process. Those who have huge experiences can think more objectively, because they have the ability to compare the new thing with their experiences to find out some rules and laws. This makes concrete thing become abstract one. As a result, the cognition on new thing will become much deeper.
3. Experience promotes the development of students’ sociality.
Human grows without knowing any society rule at baby time. Everybody understands the concept of society under the help of eldership and by experiencing things that have the characteristic of society. It is more important to act in accordance with society than just to know the knowledge of society, because acting is thoroughly different from knowing. So, children ought to be given more opportunities to experience the various social activities so that they can get the skills of meeting the societies?need.
4. Experience promotes the development of students’ characteristic.
Phenomenology tells us that every deep goal in education, such as development of capability and personality, can be achieved only in the realistic world. Students can not achieve the educational deep goals unless they have some relative experiences in their life. Learning experience is the focus of students?life experience, which is considered as the basic of their development of capability and personality. Accumulating learning experience individuates every student’s from others, which makes their characteristic becomes perfect. John Dewey always emphasised that activity was important in the process of the growth of children. He believed that activity could let the interaction of organism and the environment appear, which richened children’s characteristic. And at the same time, every activity that has relationship with children’s life produces new experience and makes the intrinsic experience get more sense. So when we design curriculum for children, we should examine what experience they have had, and design calculated activities. What we should pay attention to is that every activity should have strong relationship with their intrinsic experience, because only this kind of activity can develop their characteristic to perfection, but not split personality!
